“Test all things; hold fast what is good.”

I Thessalonians 5:21

Do you know what verity means? It means truth, reality. In order to grow, we must consider what is true.  We must live in reality. We must continue to learn. Did you know that true learning is not automatic? Sure, you are going to “learn” everyday by what happens around you, by what you hear. But, is that learning truth? We should be diligent to make sure that what we are learning is true.

Much of what we hear each day is false or, at the least, incomplete. This is true of the news from the media and also of many “religious” teachings we see and hear in the papers and on the TV. It is our responsibility to test what we hear to see if it is truth. When we find that something is not true, whether we want to believe it or not, we must discard it in order to grow as God wants us to.

Consider today. In the end, truth will be left standing. All that is false will fall away. Don’t be one of those who will fall at the end because of building your life on what is false. Search the Scriptures to know the truth. Base your life on truth. Pray and trust God to help you discern what is true. Your life and eternity depend on it.

The Song of the Angels - Peace

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!

Luke 2:14

How many people wish for peace? We all do, or at least, we should. Did you know that the root meaning of the word peace is like the word pact? That is an agreement between two that eliminates disturbance or trouble, which had prevailed. Ephesians 2:14 says that Jesus is our peace. Isaiah 9:6 prophesied that Jesus would be the Prince of Peace.

I Corinthians 14:33 says that God is not the author of confusion but of peace.

I know that the preaching of the Word of God brings turmoil to the lives of those who are in sin. That is their conflict with the Gospel. However, what is being preached will bring peace. Romans 10:15 and Acts 10:36 speak of the gospel of peace and of preaching peace. Once we submit our lives to God and obey His will we will find peace.

In the church we should seek peace. Fighting and arguing among brothers and sisters is foreign to God’s will for His people. Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12;14) Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another (Romans 14;19)

Consider today. Individually we should become people of peace as we grow and mature to be more like Christ. But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (Galatians 5:22) Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God (Matthew 5:9) Are you a person of peace?
